It's so sad how swamped I get sometimes that blogging becomes impossible. Here're the highlights:
-My daughter got her learner's permit and we've started driving lessons. Talk about a major undertaking. DH is out of town almost every week, so it's me, the road, and a nervous teen behind the wheel of a car that's too big...lucky me!
-Last week was the state's swim Jr. Olympics and I had two kids with state times in several races. My son, ten going on thirty, is determined to be the next Phelps or Cullen Jones. He didn't make the top 8 in his individual events, but got the next best, somewhere between 9 and 16, don't know yet. Same for my girl. They'll get trophies for the relays though. Go Baraccudas!!
-Got an e-mail from the chief editor of a publishing house in Kenya who wants me to write children's books. Bet you didn't know my first works were children stories. I have a few pre-school stuff, but the one I really liked was a series meant to introduce children to different ancient African Civilizations. Three children, two boys and a girl, find a sunken treasure trunk, try the trinkets on and are swept into the past-like in Magic Tree House. In the first book, they end up in Meroe, an ancient Kush/Nubian city. I did a lot of reaserch for the book, found cool engaging stuff. The children get to meet the Nubianking and queen, even the lion-headed god Apedemak. The second one was to take them to one of the Swahili kingdoms, then Egypt, Mali, Songhay, Great Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Ghana, Hausa Kingdoms, Islamic invasion, European invasion....
I got a few interest then from editors, but no bites. That was when I switched to romance.
Since I wrote the story 12 yrs ago, three computers ago, I have to dig through my old boxes and find the disk I saved it in...LOL, remember those old disks? My present desk top doesn't have a disk-drive. I'd hate to start all over. On the other hand, I think I'm a better writer now.
-Well, that's my exciting news.
Have a fabulous week.
