My birthday wish

I got my birthday wish. On Thursday the 16th, I took the kids to watch Berverly Hills Chihuahua, grabbed pizza on our way back and while they ate, kissed everyone bye and checked out witha broad grin on my face.

The Hampton Inn, recently opened, had one room available in the smoking section. I couldn't imagine relaxing in cigerette funkdom. So I vamoosed out of there to Crystal Inn and waltz in. Don't misunderstand me, we have about twelve hotels and motels in the valley but the above two are the newest with wonderful amenities.

Crystal Inn, Logan

The room was clean and faced the back not the highway. Not that I was interested in the scenary. But for two days, I lounged in bed, wrote on my lap top and watched T.V. You could say I had my fix of political news.

The hotel offered wonderful breakfast choices and light dinners in a clean environment. I took a tray to my room every time. I wanted zero company.

Quite a lot of families were visiting so the pool was always busy. I had the gym to myself Friday night and Saturday morning. Working out at your own pace without worrying about hurrying to the next task is sooo much fun. I stopped by a new spa across the street for a facial on Friday evening...not the best I've ever had but I was in a forgiving mood.

There's something to be said about blissful silence though. I loved that I could hear myself think. No Mommy this and Mommy that, screaming matches between the kids, whining....phew. It was so worth it.

I checked out on Saturday at twelve. In fact my son called to make sure I wouldn't be home earlier because they were cleaning and baking for me a birthday cake, really sweet...until I came home and saw their idea of cleaning. Since my stress level was at zero, I just jumped in and "fixed" their mess. It was a wonderful birthday. Now we're back to normal...I'm back to normal until next time.

I'd like to do it every four months. I don't know about you mothers out there but have you noticed tha tvacationing with kids is not really a vacation for you...you're still on duty 24-7.

So that was my birthday. What do you like to do on your birthday???
Have a fabulous weekend.

Happy Birthday

My birthday is coming up, Sat 18th, 43 years old. Ouch, the big five-0 is looming. Anyway, I was down with a nasty flu and it seems to be lingering forever. Coughing, hacking, headache, listless, that's me. I'm thinking of checking into a hotel for two days to recuperate uninterrupted by the munchins. Throw in a spa and I'll be in heaven.

Seriously, I pulled this a couple of years ago...left DH with the kids, checked myself into a hotel on a Friday afternoon with my laptop, slept, ordered takeouts, watched T.V. and wrote. Didn't come home until Saturday afternoon. Had the best Brithday ever.

Am I being a bad mother ? With my five kids, I long for peace and quiet once in a while. Anyway, this time my son, 10, recommended this as a birthday gift. Best part, we have Utah Educators Association conference this weekend, which means no school tomorrow and Friday. We'll see how it goes.
