What a weekend!!!
My little girl turned six on the 27th and my son's b'day is tomorrow but I chose to give them both birthday parties on Friday before their friends took off for the long weekend.
Here's how it went after days of stressing, scouring Michael's for art supplies and a dollar stores for cheap birthday paraphenalia. My daughter had a princess party, my son a pirate one. The young mateys comandeered downstairs and outside which had pirate banners, while the little princesses had the living room and the birthday girl's bedroom, all done with princess party stuff-thank goodness for a dollar store.

For the princesses, they were met at the door by my two oldest daughters and a friend, (who volunteered to help) then ushered to the bedroom to pick a princess dress. Then it was crafts' time at the table personlizing tiaras, wands and treat bags with princessy sparkly foams. After that, it was make-up time then cake and drinks followed by a photoshoot. Last was manicure and pedicure by the older girls before a treasure hunt for the treats which were distributed into their goodies bags.
All that was organized and executed by my high-schooler and the two eleven year olds. Bless those girls, I couldn't ask for more wonderful daughters.

Meanwhile, I had the boys outside chasing each other with Nerf tag guns and water grenades. I love those Nerf products. The goggles protect their eyes and the felt vest are perfect for the darts. Needless to say, we lost a third of the darts. They kept shooting them in the air, over the hedge...boys will be boys, what can I say.
The boys were a lot easier to entertain though it took forver to get them to agree to a photoshoot. Anyway, I scattered black and white balloons which they had to pop to find the clues of the treasures whereabouts. Finally they found the four bags of treats I'd hidden under rocks in the backyard. They had their cake and drinks afterwards.
Then present-opening time downstairs followed by a game of Disney Pictionary...girls versus boys with the two eleveln-year olds on the girls side. We meant to have apple-bobbing game, pin the heart on the tiara for the girls and X on the treasure island for the boys but it was time to go home.
I thought I'd go nuts having two parties at the same time but with my daughters' help and fifteen wonderful children ready to have fun, it wasn't so bad. Still, I was more than happy to retire to my room with a BIG glass of wine after everyone left.
All in all, a wonderful Memorial Day weekend .
Mood: Relieved the parties for this year are over.
