My birthday is coming up, Sat 18th, 43 years old. Ouch, the big five-0 is looming. Anyway, I was down with a nasty flu and it seems to be lingering forever. Coughing, hacking, headache, listless, that's me. I'm thinking of checking into a hotel for two days to recuperate uninterrupted by the munchins. Throw in a spa and I'll be in heaven.

Seriously, I pulled this a couple of years ago...left DH with the kids, checked myself into a hotel on a Friday afternoon with my laptop, slept, ordered takeouts, watched T.V. and wrote. Didn't come home until Saturday afternoon. Had the best Brithday ever.
Am I being a bad mother ? With my five kids, I long for peace and quiet once in a while. Anyway, this time my son, 10, recommended this as a birthday gift. Best part, we have Utah Educators Association conference this weekend, which means no school tomorrow and Friday. We'll see how it goes.

That's a fabulous idea! I did that a couple of times when my kids were little. Once I just went to a local Ramada Inn overnight. My girlfriend met me for dinner and a movie and I slept late the next morning and stayed until check-out time. The second time my family sent me to Atlantic City to Trump Castle (now Trump Marina) for my birthday. My father's business partner was a high roller. He had all these perks that covered the room and dinners. It was WONDERFUL, even though it rained all weekend. I didn't care because I called room service, went down to the casino and played the slots, read and watched TV.
GO FOR IT, GIRL. GET AWAY FROM THOSE KIDS! It will do wonders for you.
All mothers (okay, dads too) need a refreshing of spirit. The time away helps them to appreciate you more (not that they don't) and gives you an opportunity to refuel.
Too bad more moms can't or won't do this for themselves.
Enjoy your birthday!!!!!
Ooh, ladies, Patricia and Denise, thank you. At times when I bring this up with DH, who hates to stay with kids, I feel like I'm being selfish. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one feeling I need to refresh. How else will I be there for everyone else if I don't get a little me-time? Definitely checking out and in tomorrow...will make it one night because I promised the kiddos a movie today.
